The Platform for Advanced Scientific Computing (PASC) Conference is an interdisciplinary conference in HPC that brings together domain science, applied mathematics and computer science - where computer science is focused on enabling the realization of scientific computation.

The PASC17 Conference, co-sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS), will be held from June 26 to 28, 2017 at Palazzo dei Congressi, located in Lugano, Switzerland. The local host of PASC17 is the Università della Svizzera italiana (USI).

Target Audience

The PASC17 Conference seeks to engage participants from academia, research labs and industry to address important issues in HPC and computational science. PASC17 is inviting researchers from diverse scientific backgrounds to promote interdisciplinary collaboration and exchange of expertise. The conference is an opportunity for researchers in branches of science that require computer modeling and high-performance simulations to discuss computational techniques and technologies.

Program

The PASC Conference provides three days of stimulating and thought-provoking technical sessions, including keynote presentations, minisymposia, peer-reviewed papers, panels and poster sessions. The conference is co-sponsored by ACM SIGHPC, and full papers are published in the ACM Digital Library. The program will provide an exhibition space.

Contributions

Researchers from academia and industry present their research in the form of papers, minisymposia and/or posters.
PASC17 received submissions in the following scientific fields:

  • Chemistry and Materials
  • Climate and Weather
  • Computer Science and Applied Mathematics
  • Emerging Domains (Special Topic: Precision Medicine)
  • Engineering
  • Life Sciences
  • Physics
  • Solid Earth Dynamics

Guidelines regarding the submission process are available here.

Local Host

The local host of PASC17 is the Università della Svizzera italiana, one of the 12 certified public universities in Switzerland coordinated by swissuniversities.

Established in 1996, USI has grown steadily and today comprises five Faculties: Architecture, Economics, Communication Sciences, Informatics and Biomedical Sciences. USI is affiliated with the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB, Bellinzona), the Institute for Oncology Research (IOR, Bellinzona) and the Dalle Molle Institute for Artificial Intelligence (IDSIA, Manno).

The Institute of Computational Science (ICS, Lugano) is the largest institute in Switzerland devoted exclusively to computational science. Embedded in a dense network of national and international cooperation partners, ICS carries out high-level research in computational science in eight research groups with a general focus on life sciences, environmental sciences, economy, and engineering.

Event Partnership

ISC High Performance (ISC 2017) and the PASC Conference (PASC17) are pleased to announce that these two key events in the European HPC ecosystem are scheduled back to back in June 2017.

The ISC High Performance series will be held from June 18 – June 22, 2017, in Frankfurt, Germany. It offers 12 fascinating HPC topics grouped under three categories: systems, applications, and emerging topics. All topics will be addressed in different power-packed sessions. The ISC tutorials, workshops and the exhibition will complement these sessions. ISC High Performance focuses on HPC technological development and its application in scientific fields, as well as its adoption in commercial environments.

Following ISC 2017, researchers from academia, national labs and industry will descend on Lugano, Switzerland, for PASC17, an interdisciplinary conference in HPC that brings together domain science, applied mathematics and computer science.

Do not miss the opportunity to combine the two events. ISC High Performance and PASC look forward to welcoming you to Germany and Switzerland for thought-provoking technical sessions and additional networking opportunities.
